Help

This is a general help page provided to help you with a number of common difficulties our users have reported.

Joining FNF

How do I join?

To join FNF please click here. Membership costs £39 for the first year and £35 thereafter, with a reduced rate of £18 available to those on unemployment benefits. Alternatively, you can register for our mailing list by selecting ‘Free Registration’. Free Registration does not give you access to Member benefits, such as the Forum.

Can I join/pay on someone else's behalf?

We are aware that some people purchase Membership on behalf of friends or relatives. This may be to help out with the cost or because the person is in need of the support and advice which FNF provides. If you would like to do this, you can. Just make sure that you enter the person's contact details correctly, including their email address, so that they receive FNF Mail and can also access the Forum and Members-only pages on our site. The contact/address details you enter while registering do not have to match those entered on the Payment page.

I tried to join but my email address is already in use

If you tried to join but couldn’t because your email address is already in use, this means we already have your email address in our records, probably because you have previously registered. If you know the password you can login using that, if not you can retrieve the password by clicking Forgot Login and entering your email. We will then send you a temporary password to access your account. After you login with this password you must change it, otherwise you may have problems logging in again.

How do I upgrade to become a Member?

To upgrade to full Membership, click Upgrade My Subscription and select 'Annual Membership'. This will give you access to the Forum, to FNF-produced Factsheets and more.

What are my payment options?

We accept payment by Paypal, credit/debit card, cheque or cash.

If you would like to pay by cheque or cash, select 'Pay Offline' when you get to the Payment screen. You will then need to send the payment to the FNF Admin Office at:

Families Need Fathers
Unit 501
The Pill Box Building
115 Coventry Road
London
E2 6GG

Please make sure you send this within 2 weeks of becoming a Member.

If none of these payment options are suitable for you, contact us at admin@fnf.org.uk and we'll try to sort out an alternative for you.

Note: You will also find these instructions on the Payment page.

My Profile

I forgot my password

If you have forgotten your password, click here, select 'Lost Password' and enter your username and email address. We will then send you a temporary password to access your account. After you login with this password you must change it, otherwise you may have problems logging in again.

How do I change my username?

Sometimes our Members have usernames which may identify them, for example their username may be very similar to their name. This may be problematic when talking about individual cases on the Forum. If you think your username is too revealing, contact admin@fnf.org.uk and we will change it for you.

How do I change my password?

To change your password, go to Edit My Profile and type a new password in both the ‘Password’ field and the ‘Verify Password’ field. Please do NOT edit your password through the forum, edit it on the FNF website instead.

My username isn’t working

If you have been a Member since before August 2014, your details would have been transferred to our new system. Unfortunately this resulted in some Members not having the same username as before. Please try logging in using you email address instead. If this does not work then click on Forgot Login and enter your email. We will then send you a temporary password to access your account. After you login with this password you must change it, otherwise you may have problems logging in again.

My password isn’t working

One reason why your password may not be working is that you have changed your password on the Forum. This can lead to problems so we recommend that in future you only change your password on the FNF website, using the Edit My Profile page.

If you would like to reset your password please go to Forgot Login and enter your email. We will then send you a temporary password to access your account. After you login with this password you must change it, otherwise you may have problems logging in again.

The Forum

How do I access the Forum?

To access the Forum, please login to the FNF website. After you have done this, click the Forum link in the main menu at the top of the page.

I cannot access the Forum

The Forum is only available to FNF Members. If you are not a Member or your Membership has expired, you will not be able to access the Forum. Please either join or renew to gain access.

If you have an active Membership and still cannot access the Forum, it may be because you are using a temporary password. This would have been sent to you if you had clicked on Forgot Login. To fix this, all you need to do is go to Edit My Profile and type a new password in both the ‘Password’ field and the ‘Verify Password’ field.

If you have followed the above instructions and still cannot access the Forum, contact us at admin@fnf.org.uk.

If your issues are not covered above, please contact us at admin@fnf.org.uk.

FNF Online Forum Guide

FNF Online Forum Explained

What is the FNF Online Forum?

The FNF Online Forum is a membership service which allows FNF members to communicate with each other as a group through the FNF website. You may also have used similar services called message boards or bulletin boards. It works by allowing members to send messages, which other members are then able to read and reply to.

In many ways, the Forum replicates some of the functions of our branch meetings. If you are having problems or have a question about your case, you can post them in the Self-Help section. Other members can then read it, and reply with their thoughts, comments, support, suggestions and opinions.

The unique strength of the Forum is that it is available 24 hours a day all year round and can be accessed from all over the world – so it’s great if you live a long way from your nearest branch, or if you next meeting is a little way off.

We also have Chat areas where you can voice your opinions, discuss the latest news and meet other members of Families Need Fathers.

The best way to find out about the FNF Online forums is to get signed up and have a look for yourself – it’s really easy, only takes a few minutes and you can read instructions on what to do below (‘I am a member of FNF – how do I sign up?’)

Who can be a member?

The FNF Online Forum is available for the use of paid-up members of Families Need Fathers.

To find out the benefits of being a member and how to sign up, please click here.

I am a member of FNF – how do I sign up?

Our site now automatically allows you to access the FNF Forum when you are a Member.

If you cannot access the Forum after logging in to this site with your FNF Username and password please contact our office on admin@fnf.org.uk

The same username and password with work on FNF's site (this one) and on the Forum.

How do I start a new topic?

Simply navigate to the area you would like to post in (for instance, if you have a self-help question about Cafcass you would click ‘Self-help’ and then ‘Cafcass’) and click NEW TOPIC:

Choose a subject for your message, type your message and click ‘Submit’.

How do I reply to an existing topic?

If you’d like to reply to a discussion already in progress, navigate to the message you wish to reply to and click Post Reply:

Type your message (you can also alter the subject if you wish) and click ‘Submit’.

How do I keep up to date with new posts?

There are two main ways to keep up to date with new activity on the FNF Forum.

First of all, you can use menu button to the left of "Quick links":

This allows you to see new activity in four difference ways:

  • New Posts – See the latest posts.

  • Unread posts – See posts that haven't been viewed by anybody yet.

  • Unanswered posts – See topics which have not had any replies yet.

  • Active topics – See topics which are new or have had the most recent responses.

How do I Subscribe to a Forum or Topic?

You can also ‘Subscribe’ to particular forum areas or topics. This means that you will be notified when there is a new post or reply in a particular topic or forum area.

To do this, navigate to the forum area or topic you would like to be kept up-to-date on (for instance, if you want to be told when there are new self-help posts about Cafcass, click ‘Self-help’ then ‘Cafcass’. If there’s a specific thread you want to keep an eye on, click into that as well).

Click the small spanner button to the right of the Post Reply button and select Subscribe Topic.  You can also subscribe to a whole forum if that's of interest.

You will now receive an e-mail when a new post or reply is made, with links to the post, the topic or the Forum.

Please note: You will only receive one notification e-mail per subscription in between log-ins. So, if you receive a notification e-mail but don’t visit the Forum, you won’t be notified again if there are new posts until the next time you log-in.

To unsubscribe from notifications, repeat the above process and uncheck the Subscribe topic box.

You can also view and maintain your subscriptions through the User Control Panel (see below).

Can I be notified when people reply to my posts?

Yes – when posting, or replying to another post, if you tick the box marked ‘Notify me when a reply is posted’, you will receive a notification when replies are made to your post.

Again, you will only receive one notification of new replies between each time you log-in.

How do I change my profile and signature?

You can change your profile (the information other users can see about you) and your signature (the message displayed at the end of each post you make), as well as change your avatar and manage your subscriptions by visiting the User Control Panel, underneath the Board Index.

By default, your profile and signature are blank.

I've forgotten my password!

No problem, click on Forgot Login on this page near the Login button.

Please note: You must reset your password on our main site https://fnf.org.uk and not in the forum itself, otherwise your forum password and main site password will be different and will not operate reliably.

I’ve got another question!

If you’d like help with anything not listed here, please post in the New Forum Help area, e-mail webmaster@fnf.org.uk or call 0300 0300 110

I'm ready to go!

Great! Head for https://fnf.org.uk/forum
