Press Release

‘Long hours in the nursery have positive and negative effects on children’s behaviour.

The more months they had been attending the more likely they were to display anti-social behaviour.’

DfES funded report undertaken at Oxford University and by the Institute of Fiscal Studies

“The findings for children spending long hours in institutional day care and long hours away from parents come as no surprise to Families Need Fathers” said John Baker, FNF Chair.

“There is an enormous supply of parental care available from fathers, especially in separated families. The government childcare strategy insists on ignoring this potential contribution. One hopes in the light of these finding that the government will now allow more children to spend time with their ‘other’ parent, thus benefiting children, mothers, and fathers who are distressed at being kept apart from their children.”
