Keeping Children and Parents in Contact since 1974
Press ReleaseJohn Hutton missing the bigger picture…againFamilies Need Fathers are disappointed that Work and Pensions Secretary John Hutton has yet again forgotten that while concentrating on ‘lone’ parents he is forgetting the many carers, especially fathers who would like to play an active role in their children’s lives. Eradicating child poverty isn’t just about getting parents into employment. A child’s welfare depends on many factors and a close bond with both parents is central to this. John Baker, Chair of UK support charity Families Need Fathers said: ‘All parents have a duty to support their children, both financially and emotionally, but the government should be promoting the idea of shared parenting rather than supporting the current system, concentrating simply on adjustments to the benefits system is ignoring the big picture. ‘ - ENDS - |
