E-Petition for equal rights to Fathers

Please visit http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/FatherEquality/ and sign a petition to the Prime Minister to give equal rights to Fathers with respect to the care and upbringing of their children.

The petition has been submitted by Martyn Leman, who states:

This government is accelerating the decline of the role of the father in the care of their children.

I believe that fathers have an equal role to play. Please join me by signing this petition to campaign for equality of rights for Fathers with respect to access, care and upbringing of their children.

Response to petition on 'father equality'

The Prime Minister's Office has responded to the petition "Give equal rights to Fathers with respect to the care and upbringing of their children."

The response talks of encouraging unmarried fathers to acquire more parental responsibility, giving more support to fathers in balancing childcare with work and providing as much "local information, advice and support as mothers."

It does not, however, address the issue of the legal inequality between mothers and fathers when they separate.

The full response can be read at: http://www.number-10.gov..uk/output/Page11207.asp

Deadline to sign up by: 14 March 2007

Frank Chandler's E-Petition on the CSA

Visitors to this website may well be interested in signing the following petition to the Prime Minister. It simply calls for equal and fair treatment for all non-resident parents (NRP'S).

Please read the petition below and, if you feel it appropriate, sign it by using the following link: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/child-supp-agncy/

Deadline to sign up by: 22 February 2007

                               ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to compel the Child Support Agency (CSA) to give fair and equal treatment for all CSA non-resident parents.

The new formula for Child Support Agency (CSA) maintenance calculations has now been in place since April 2003. Non –resident parents still being assessed under the ‘ old rules’ have experienced a long and avoidable delay in assessment under the ‘new rules’ – currently a delay of 3 years and 7 months! The continued use of both the ‘old rules’ and the ‘new rules’ is unfair because it inevitably results in different levels of assessment for cases having identical financial circumstances. Those non-resident parents who are responsibly paying the CSA’s assessment under the ‘old rules’ which have long been recognised as unfair, are still bearing the financial burden and related stress which may well be alleviated by assessment under the ‘new rules’. We call upon the minister concerned to instruct the CSA to take the necessary steps to bring in the new, simplified and fairer method of assessment for all cases with immediate effect.
